Isn't great when logic and reason win out?

Seven weeks ago in this space, I made a surprising decision to side with Johnny Manziel. The 2012 Heisman Trophy winner from Texas A&M vowed to boycott future ceremonies unless Reggie Bush got his Heisman back.

Bush, a superstar at Southern California, was stripped of his 2005 award, and his ability to attend the annual ceremony. after an investigation into improper benefits his family received.

On Wednesday, the Heisman Trophy folks reversed course and reinstated Bush's award.

Some will say "too little, too late." Not me. I''m going with "better late than never"

I have been a Heisman voter more than 30 years and am the state representative for Illinois. The Bush decision adds to my pride in being a part of the award process. The Heisman got it right.

Bush could have been bitter about the previous decision. But to his credit, he went the other way, embracing his return and promising to work with the organization. Class act.

The Heisman folks acknowledge the changes in the college landscape that would make what Bush did back in the within the rules now.

Drop 2005 Bush into modern-day college football and he would be worth a fortune ... legally. Oh, and he is now a Big Ten player too. Welcome to the conference Mr. Bush. That makes 28 for the Big Ten if you count the current 18 schools, including 2022 winner Caleb Williams of Southern California.
