CHAMPAIGN -- Illinois freshman guard Amber Moore is out for the season after an MRI revealed she tore the ACL in her left knee during overtime of Friday's loss at Temple.
Moore's loss is a big blow for the Illini, who were counting on her perimeter shooting to open avenues for standout center Jenna Smith. Moore is expected to undergo surgery soon.
Her absence leaves sophomore Macie Blinn as the team's top perimeter scoring threat. Blinn, who shot 30 percent a year ago on three-point tries, has played well in two games this season. Freshman Adrienne GodBold has started both games at the off-guard spot, though her offensive strength is scoring off the dribble.
"I really feel for Amber and her family," Illinois coach Jolette Law said in a release. "She worked so hard leading up to the season and was coming into her own as a player. We are still expecting big things from Amber here at Illinois, we'll just have to wait a little longer to see what she can do. Her attitude has been very positive about this so far and I'm confident she'll come back stronger than before."
The Illini were battling other injuries during Monday morning's practice. Senior Lacey Simpson sat out the last portion of practice with an ice pack on her left wrist. She had a brace on the wrist afterward.
Guard Fabiola Josil was limping with ice packs on her left knee and ankle but didn't appear to be seriously injured.
And what's up with Destiny Williams?
