CHICAGO -- Senior center Jenna Smith was a unanimous all-conference selection and the Illinois women were picked to finish sixth by the media and coaches in balloting released Thursday morning during the Big Ten media day.

The Illini were selected sixth in separate voting by each group. Each bloc had Ohio State first and Michigan State second. The coaches had Minnesota third and Purdue fourth, while the media had those teams reversed.

Iowa was fifth by both groups, followed by Illinois. The coaches' final grouping: Penn State, Northwestern, Indiana, Wisconsin and Michigan. The media went with WIsconsin seventh, followed by Penn State, Indiana, Northwestern and MIchigan.

As expected, Ohio State's Jantel Lavender was named Preseason Player of the Year by each contingent. She was joined on the five-player all-league team by Smith, Michigan State's Allyssa DeHaan, Ohio State's Samantha Prahalis and Penn State's Tyra Grant.

Smith was a unanimous pick by the coaches.
