Meyers Leonard

7-0, C, Robinson

Junior season: 13 ppg, 9 rpg, 3 apg

Committed on: July 29, 2008

National letter of intent faxed to Illinois at 10 a.m. today

What is this recruiting class capable of?

"I mean, just like we said right when we committed: national championships are not out of the question. It's on the top of our heads. That's where we need to be. I know everybody's going to be expecting a lot out of us since we're a highly rated recruiting class. So we're going to have show everybody what we've got."

You and Mike (Tisdale) are two 7-footers. Can you play together next season?

"Definitely. We can both shoot the ball. So that's kind of like a killer tandem. Then I may still grow. That's what the doctors down here told me, because I still have growth plates open. The trainer at my school, he was looking at the MRI (on his knee, which suffered a strain and has sidelined him for another week) and said I might grow an inch or two more. I'm 7-foot, right on the dot right now."

You, in a lot of ways, emerged out of nowhere. How do you remember that process?

"I went to the (Nike) Hoop Jamboree. That was probably the first time I got noticed by all the national scouts. Then all the sudden I was 50-something (in various recruit rankings) and then all the sudden I was top-30. It was really incredible, considering no one knew about me a couple weeks before that."

Consider the fact that a college education leading to the completion of a degree is a very noteworthy goal to accomplish. Think about the idea that your undergraduate college years can never be replaced by money alone. Think seriously about staying in school all four years, enjoy those years and earn your degree. Go Illini!!
