Tisdale adds another USA Basketball invite

CHAMPAIGN - Mike Tisdale, the 7-foot-1 sophomore who projects to be the starting center this season at Illinois, underwent a minor leg surgery this morning.

The surgery was to repair a muscle hernia in his right leg, according to a UI athletics spokesman. He's expected to be sidelined three-to-four weeks, or about three weeks before the Nov. 14 season opener against Eastern Washington.

If the recovery goes as planned, Tisdale will be able to participate in the team's first exhibition game, on Nov. 2. There was no specific incident that led to the injury, though Tisdale had been experiencing pain in the leg this week during workouts.

A Riverton product, Tisdale was one of the team's most durable players during his freshman season. He played in all 35 games and averaged 10.4 minutes. Next season coaches expect him to take on a larger role as Shaun Pruitt's successor at center.
