HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. — Junior Raquel Hopton and sophomore Kaitlyn Wampler each shot 5-over 77s on Monday to lead Illinois to sixth place after the first round of the Ron Moore Women’s Intercollegiate outside Denver.

The Illini are at 24-over 312, 14 strokes behind first-place Denver, in the 13-team tournament. The 54-hole tournament continues today with the second round.

LUSS, Scotland — Illinois men’s golf coach Mike Small lost his singles match Sunday 2-and-1, but the Americans still cruised to a 171/2-81/2 victory against Great Britain & Ireland in the PGA Cup.

Small was the only U.S. team member who did not earn a point Sunday. Overall, Small was 1-4 for the event.
