CHAMPAIGN – If Juice Williams is healthy, he will start the Nov. 27 game at Cincinnati.
"We'll go into this game with Juice as the quarterback," Ron Zook said Sunday. "I think we owe Juice more than that. He's a warrior. He's a fighter. And he'll be ready to go.
"We're going to do our best to win these next two games. And, in my opinion, Juice will give us the best chance to win those next two games."
Zook said Williams could have played Saturday against Northwestern "if we had forced the issue."
"The doctors didn't feel like it was in the best interest of Juice."
Zook said Williams will practice Tuesday and Wednesday.
"He had his rest (Saturday)," Zook said.
Jacob Charest started against Northwestern and led the team to two scoring drives in the fourth quarter.
Officially speaking. Zook was near the play that ended Illinois' final drive Saturday, an interception by Northwestern's Sherrick McManis. McManis took the ball from Illinois receiver Jarred Fayson. After the play, Zook briefly argued with the officials.
"My vision, it was a catch and he was on the ground," Zook said.
"I know the official was having trouble hearing and he handed the headset back to the replay guy at least once and maybe twice because he couldn't hear."
Kicker change? Derek Dimke likely will kick extra points and field goals against Cincinnati, Zook said. Dimke replaces Matt Eller, who is 4 of 11 on field goal tries this season. He missed a 23-yarder Saturday against Northwestern.
Down time. With no game Saturday, Illinois will have a shorter week of practice. The team will have workouts today, Tuesday and Wednesday, then be off until Sunday.
"Tuesday, Wednesday, we're going to get ready for Cincinnati," Zook said.
Aches, pains. Safety Donsay Hardeman "tweaked his neck again," Zook said. "That will up in the air again."
Receiver Jack Ramsey suffered a sprained ankle, but Zook expects him back this week.
Zook said he is hopeful to have tight end Michael Hoomanawanui on the field for Cincinnati. Hoomanawanui has a sprained ankle.
"I would be shocked if (he) doesn't play against Cincinnati," Zook said.
Ron Zook says, "We'll go into this game with Juice as the quarterback," Ron Zook said Sunday. "I think we owe Juice more than that. He's a warrior. He's a fighter. And he'll be ready to go.
"We're going to do our best to win these next two games. And, in my opinion, Juice will give us the best chance to win those next two games."
I have nothing against Juice but this is why Zook should be fired. The season is lost Zook! You know it! The fans know it! The players know it!
I have had it! I will not be buying tickets next year and I have really good seats. Do you hear that Guenther? You are hearing this from a many year Ifund donor. Believe me, money talks and this bullsh!t needs to stop.

Agree with BigTenFan. What's next - Eller? Juice helped get us into this mess. Start Charest and move toward the future, with new coaches. Period.

We all know Zook is a poor coach.....We all know he isnt to bright either.......Now we know he is even more ignorant than originally believed.......Juice Williams is a good guy but should never see another play the rest of this year........Zook is proving why he should no longer coach at the UofI........Jacob Charest should be the starting QB....Eddie McGee should not see another snap as quarterback.......If Zook had any idea what he is doing then he would put Juice in the slot or let him run the ball a few times.

Why are these comments silly? Juice has done nothing since Mendalhall left. He has been terrible for the lst 2 years. Zook put all his eggs in the Juice Williams basket and now he can't admit it was a failure. I liked Juice but he jusr never progressed or improved after his Sophomore year. Saturdays loss was nothing but a coaching loss and failure. What happened to this great recuiting class? Where they overrated or did the coaching staff just fail to bring out their potential. If Juice is starting the final 2 games I will not be in the stands for the Fresno game. It is time to go with the guys you feel eill be playing next year and let them get some expierence.

Whether it is at the end of this year or next Zook will be fired. The difference is they can fire him now and maybe put people in the seats next year or fire him next year after a lost revenue season not to mention another losing season. Dumbest thing out of all of this was the extension given to him after 1 good year. At least Turner had more than 1 winning season.

Can someone explain to me why it is dumb to start Juice? Sure you can say that we have to get ready for next year, but I think ending with two wins is bigger for next year then letting a QB, who might not even start next year, get some extra snaps. If anyone watched the Michigan game or the beginning of the Minnesota game you would want Juice to start. I do believe that NOW he gives this team the best chance to win. Not a month ago, but now he does.
I'm not saying Zook is the guy, or that he should be kept, but I think it is the right move to start Juice for these games unless he becomes extremely unproductive.
And if you look at last year, it was not Juice's fault. He had a great year, but our D let us down and play calling let us down.

Seriously? Look Juice is no Sam Bradford or Tim Tebow but to say he hasn't progressed since his sophomore year is ridiculous. Let's see Juice was first in passing yds, total yds, passing tds and rushing yds/tds for a QB last year. Sounds like a pretty good year to me.....However Charest should not start the next two games. He'll have his chance next season to prove his worth. So far he's proved that he cannot be depended on in the clutch. Zook's tenure should end next season. Anyone want to start a petition for Brian Kelly the coach at Cincinnati to come to Illinois next year?

All those stats were from the Big Ten not the NCAA overall.
