New Mexico changes policy

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico changed its human resources policies in the wake of an altercation involving football coach Mike Locksley.
University President David Schmidly said Friday that personnel issues previously handled by the athletic department now must go through the school’s Division of Human Resources.
The move comes after school administrators acknowledged making procedural mistakes while investigating claims by assistant coach J.B. Gerald that he was punched and choked by Locksley, a former Illinois assistant, on Sept. 20.
In other changes, athletic managers, coaches and support staff must receive additional training on existing personnel policies and procedures.
The university also plans to review practices for handling public records requests.
