Koschmann increases lead  (Monday, March 8, 2010)

ORANGE PARK, Fla. — Illinois' Hailey Koschmann carded a second-round 70 to take a 5-stroke lead into today's final round at the JMU Eagle Landing Invitational.

Koschmann, who was at 5-under-par 139, helped lead the Illini to third place in the team standings at 602. Central Arkansas was first at 596, and South Florida was second at 599.

Former Illini shortstop Toby Gardenhire has received an invitation to spring training by the Minnesota Twins as a non-roster player. Gardenhire, the son of Twins manager Ron Gardenhire, played his senior season at the UI in 2005 after transferring from Southwest Missouri State.

NEW YORK — Angela Bizzarri of Illinois has won the 2010 Honda Award for cross-country.

Illinois senior Angela Bizzarri is a nominee for the Honda Sports Award for cross-country, the Collegiate Women Sports Awards announced Tuesday.

The eight-time All-American earned the nomination a day after winning the NCAA Championships in a school-record 6-kilometer time of 19 minutes, 46.8 seconds.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Angela Bizzarri has won an NCAA title as the favorite and, now, as one of the underdogs.
