Former Illini standout Ashley Berggren has been hired as the girls' varsity basketball coach at Schaumburg High School, according to a story in the Arlington Heights Daily Herald.

Berggren had anticipated moving back to Illinois. She said in February -- when her jersey was honored by Illinois -- that she was in the process of moving back to her native state. She is a Barrington native, and her family remained here while Berggren was working in Colorado.

--UI incoming freshman Destiny Williams is one of 27 players selected to compete for a spot on the U.S. Under-19 team that will compete in the world championships July 23-Aug. 2 in Bangkok, Thailand.

The trials are May 14-17 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. An undisclosed number of finalists will be invited to the team's training camp July 8 in Colorado Springs, and a 12-member squad will be finalized.

Williams is one of 14 high school students to get an invite. There are 11 players who just completed their freshman seasons in college, one who spent last season in junior college and one who has a year left of high school eligibility.

Among the invitees are Ohio State guard Samantha Prahalis; Ohio State-bound guard Tayler HIll; and center Kelsey Bone, who last month picked South Carolina.

The team is coached by Northern Illinois' Carol Owens.
