State titles for Williams, Moore

Illini recruits Destiny Williams (Benton Harbor) and Amber Moore (Birmingham Detroit Country Day) concluded their prep careers on Saturday by leading their respective teams to state titles in the MIchigan playoffs.

Moore scored a game-high 13 points to lead BDCC to its second straight Class B crown, 50-40 against Grand Rapids Central Catholic.

Williams was spectacular, collecting 31 points and 21 rebounds -- including 14 offensive rebounds -- as Benton Harbor defeated Livonia Franklin 60-46 in the Class A championship game.

--In case you missed it -- and you probably didn't -- former Illini Danielle Gratton helped Ball State knock off fifth-seeded Tennessee 71-55 Sunday night in the first round of the NCAA tournament, the first time the Vols have not advanced to the Sweet 16. ESPN.com's Mechelle Voepel called it the biggest upset in the history of the NCAA tournament.

Gratton had six points, five rebounds and three steals. She also received a hard blow to her nose, causing her to sit out for a few minutes. She returned wearing a mask to protect the nose, which she broke in a game earlier this season (and returned to finish that game).

Up next for the 12th-seeded Cardinals: Fourth-seeded Iowa State. (I claim no impartiality in this situation; Ball State is my alma mater.)

--The Jolette Law Q & A that was scheduled to run on Sunday has been pushed back to March 29.

--Should be some neat drama in East Lansing, Mich., on Tuesday night. MIchigan State will face Duke and former MSU coach Joanne McCallie in the second round of the NCAA tournament.

How was McCallie received by MSU fans on Sunday? Click here.
