The Illini may have missed out on highly touted offensive lineman Zach Fulton, as the brother of former Illini Xavier Fulton committed to Tennessee on Monday, but Illinois did receive a verbal commitment from another top guard prospect.
Andy Gallik, 6-foot-3, 290-pound senior offensive lineman from Chicago Brother Rice, gave a verbal pledge to the Illini coaching staff, EdgyTim.com reports.
Gallik is the seventh class of 2010 prospect to commit to the Illini and the second offensive lineman, joining Niles (Ill.) West guard Shawn Afryl. Gallik also projects to play guard and could play center.
Gallik chose the Illini over offers from eight other schools, including Boston College, Minnesota and several Mid-American Conference teams. He will be entering his third year as a starter for Brother Rice.
IlliniHQ spoke with Brother Rice coach Steve Nye last week.
"(Illinois) is looking at him to play guard because of his physical nature and he's got good feet," Nye said "His favorite player is David Diehl ... so he kind of likes that about Illinois and everything like that."
