With classes starting today, Jim Heffernan officially announced the addition of three more freshman to the Illini wrestling team. The most acclaimed of the three is Mario Gonzalez of Aurora, the 2009 IHSA state champion in Class 3A at 189 pounds. He will wrestle at 197 pounds for the Illini.
Gonzalez isn't the only state champ in this group, as John Van Duyne of Wilmington took the state title at 140 pounds in Class 1A. He and Nate Millman of Park Ridge will both wrestle at 149 pounds this year for Illinois. Millman was a state qualifier for Stevenson High School last season.
These three join Sam White of Masillon, Ohio and Tony Dallago of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in the 2009 class. The Illini have one verbal commitment so far in the class of 2010, from Jackson Morse of Lowell, Michigan.
