It looks like Illinois Soccer coach Janet Rayfield is assembling another fine recruiting class for 2009.  According to the soccer website Big Soccer, the Illini have five verbal commitments for next season, including two players with US U-17 National Team experience.

Here is a little information on each of the five players who have committed to Illinois:

Nicole Denenberg, midfielder, Eclipse Select Soccer Club, St. Ignatius High School.  Led St. Ignatius to Class AA state quarterfinals in 2008.

Katrina Fehrenbacher, midfielder, Eclipse Select, Dunlap High School.  Attended Olympic Development Program (ODP) Region II Camps in 2007.

Shayla Mutz, midfielder, Chicago Fire Soccer Club, Lockport High School.  Mutz was invited to the US U-17 Women's National Team Camp in Florida earlier this year.

Marissa Holden, forward, Dallas Texans Soccer Club, Plano (TX) East High School.  Her Texans club team finished second at nationals in 2007.

Niki Read, forward, Vardar-Michigan Soccer Club, Lake Orion (MI) High School.  Read and Mutz were both part of a week-long U-18 National Team Camp this spring.  They were two of only three players on the team born in 1991...all others were born in 1990.

Derenberg and Fehrenbacher would join Eclipse alums Jessica Levitt, Jackie Santacaterina, Cory Steigerwald, Brittany Garrett, Julie Ewing and Lauren Levitt on the Illini.  Holden would join club teammate freshman Jackie Guerra as the only Texans on the Illinois roster.  Read would be the second MIchigander on the Illini, joining freshman Jenna Carosio.
