The season countdown is more than two weeks. The Camp Rantoul countdown is into the hours.

Ron Zook gave his guys the afternoon off and they took advantage of it, going back to C-U to get their lives in order.

But they weren't gone long. There is one final important day of Camp Rantoul, a scrimmage that might help determine spots on the depth chart and playing time.

Given the chance, Ron Zook would spend another two weeks at Camp Rantoul with his team. That doesn't work because classes start Monday. So, the hours slip away.

Has it been a productive two weeks? Sure seems like it. But you won't know for sure until Illinois lines up against Missouri. Or even later than that. As Zook has pointed out often, the training camp is preparation for the season, not just one game.

Tomorrow, I'll be turning out the lights in the media room for the last time. Fifty weeks later, everybody will be back..
