No. 7: Alabama

Why I like the Crimson Tide: Coach Nick Saban is a great start. The defense is loaded, with nine starters returning. Defensive tackle Terrence Cody is a returning All-American. But he isn't the only star. Six of the front seven are back. Cornerback Javier Arenas is a special punt returner, bringing back three for touchdowns last season. Receiver Julio Jones is coming off a huge freshman season. Running back Mark Ingram gained 728 yards and scored 12 touchdowns last season.

Why I don't: Saban might take a job somewhere else ... next week. John Parker Wilson needs to be replaced at quarterback, maybe by someone with two names. There are holes to fill on the offensive line, the biggest one belonging to Andre Smith. The schedule is a pain, with the opener in Atlanta against Virginia Tech. Alabama has to play at Mississippi. The last time out, Alabama looked bad against Utah.
