It’s Monday again. Hope everyone had a good Easter, and if you ran in the Marathon on Saturday, hope you’re still not sore. Here’s some more randomness on the First day of the workweek.
- Sounds like the spring football practices are going well. Bob Asmussen has a column on the backup quarterback situation that can be found on this website, and it looks like the Illini are loaded with four guys who could be decent to awesome in that role. Juice better not assume that #1 job is his, because Eddie McGee, Jacob Charest, and Incoming Freshman Nathan Scheelhaase are gonna be gunning for him.
- Whatever the sport, it’s always nice to see the Illini beat up on Michigan. Dan Hartleb’s baseball team did a nice job over the weekend up at Ann Arbor taking two out of three from the Wolverines. After losing the series opener 4-2, the Illini got the bats going in 10-8 and 11-5 victories to improve to 21-8 on the year, and 6-3 in conference. Eastern Illinois comes to town tomorrow, and this isn’t like football where we will roll all over them. EIU has a respectable team this year. They’re 24-6 on the year, and 8-1 in the Ohio Valley Conference. Plus, they just got done beating UT-Martin 30-3!!! They hit nine homeruns in that game; one shy of the program record, and the 30 runs was the highest run total during the Ohio Valley Conference era (1997-present). Hope the pitchers are ready to go.
- Softball had a tough series against #16 Ohio State, and dropped both games 5-0 and 17-15. Nice to see the bats come to life in the second game, but Monica Perry had a rare bad start. She’s only a freshman, and for that reason the future for Terri Sullivan and the Illini Softball team looks very bright.
- Champaign was a happenin’ town on Saturday. It looks like the Marathon was a huge success. Whether it was to enjoy the nice day, or to try to break a world record (which I believe some people did), tons of you went out there and ran in the big event on Saturday. I had a couple of friends run in the event, and they said it was awesome. You can search for your friends results by going here. I played in a softball tournament that same day and ended up playing four games before getting eliminated. I was a bit sore afterwards, but it was probably nothing close to the soreness a number of you felt after pushing your bodies to the limit. Nicely done!
- I-L-L...
I think I might be as sore as someone that ran the marathon!
