My All-Shootout Team

It has once again been a long time in between blog entries, but things should be closer to normal for me.  I was extremely busy last week, and most of my free time was spent preparing for the three high school basketball games I had to broadcast.  I only got one H.S. game this week (Central-Centennial on Friday), so I will be able to focus on the blog a bit more.

I got to talk about The Shootout (get full Shootout details here).  It was an outstanding day of basketball, and I stayed to watch all seven games.  Towards the end of the event, Dave Shaul asked me if I was going to do an All-Shootout team for my blog, and I thought that would be a pretty good idea.  So before I get started with it, this was all Dave’s idea, even if he was joking a bit when he asked me that question.

Here is a look at my team, in no particular order:

Guard:  Chasson Randle (Rock Island) – Sure, his team lost (65-55 to Waukegan), but it wasn’t his fault.  Randle scored 22 points on a very efficient 8-11 shooting.  He also went 2-3 from beyond the arc and pulled in six rebounds.

Guard:  Brandon Paul (Warren) – Paul put on a pretty nice show.  He got the crowd going with a beautiful no-look, one-handed pass for an assist, and his totals weren’t that bad either.  He scored 17 points and pulled in nine rebounds.  Warren beat Chicago Curie 54-42.

Forward:  Rayvonte Rice (Centennial) – What a game he had.  Rice racked up 23 points, seven rebounds, four steals, and two blocks in a 60-43 win over Sterling.  I don’t think I need to say anything else.  Those numbers speak for themselves.

Forward:  Matt Frahm (Olympia)  - Frahm tied for the team lead with 19 points and made it a double double with ten rebounds.  What was also impressive was his free throw shooting, going 8-8 from the charity strip.  Olympia won easily over Mahomet-Seymour 68-54

Center:  Meyers Leonard (Robinson) – In a 49-42 win over St. Thomas More, the 6-foot-10 junior had a nice game (15 points, six rebounds and five blocks).  Most teams played with three guards or three forwards, so Leonard was one of the few true centers we saw.  Still, he played well.

Were you at the event?  If so, is there someone else I didn’t mention that you think should be on this list?  Let me hear ya!
